Foot & Ankle Tendonitis and Bursitis Treatment
Tendons and bursae help your feet and ankles move smoothly, but repetitive stress, injury, or increased activity can cause these structures to become painful and irritated.
At Brazos Foot & Ankle, we evaluate tendon and soft-tissue pain to determine what is causing your symptoms and how best to address them.

What Is Tendonitis?
Tendons connect muscles to bones and play an essential role in movement.
Several tendons around the foot and ankle can become painful or injured, including the Achilles tendon and tendons supporting the inside and outside of the ankle.
Symptoms may include:
-
Pain during activity
-
Tenderness along a tendon
-
Swelling
-
Stiffness
-
Weakness
-
Pain that worsens with repeated movement
What Is Bursitis?
Bursae are small fluid-filled sacs that help reduce friction around certain tissues.
When a bursa becomes irritated, swelling and localized pain may develop. Pressure from footwear or repetitive movement can sometimes aggravate symptoms.
Because tendonitis, bursitis, arthritis, fractures, and other conditions can produce similar pain, identifying the affected structure is important.
Why Do These Problems Develop?
A sudden increase in exercise, repetitive activity, sports, footwear, foot mechanics, and previous injuries may contribute to soft-tissue irritation.
Some tendon problems are acute, while others develop gradually over months.
Treatment for Tendonitis & Bursitis
Treatment depends on the specific structure involved and severity of the condition.
Options may include temporary activity modification, footwear changes, immobilization or bracing, physical therapy, stretching and strengthening, orthotics, medications, or other treatments.
Certain tendon injuries require more extensive treatment, so persistent symptoms shouldn't simply be pushed through.
When Should You Seek Care?
Consider an evaluation when pain repeatedly returns, swelling persists, weakness develops, or discomfort begins changing the way you walk.
Sudden pain accompanied by a popping sensation or immediate loss of function should receive prompt attention.
Get Moving More Comfortably
Soft-tissue injuries can become persistent when the source of stress isn't addressed.
At Brazos Foot & Ankle, we'll evaluate your symptoms and develop a treatment plan based on the structures involved.
