Morton’s Neuroma Treatment
Burning, tingling, numbness, or the feeling that you're standing on a pebble may be signs of Morton's neuroma, a painful condition involving a nerve in the forefoot.
At Brazos Foot & Ankle, we evaluate pain in the ball of the foot and help determine whether Morton's neuroma or another condition is responsible.

What Is Morton’s Neuroma?
Morton's neuroma involves irritation and thickening of tissue around a nerve leading toward the toes. It most commonly develops between the third and fourth toes.
Symptoms may include:
-
Burning pain in the ball of the foot
-
Tingling or numbness extending into the toes
-
Sharp or shooting discomfort
-
A feeling of having a pebble in your shoe
-
Pain that becomes worse in certain footwear
-
Symptoms that increase during walking or activity
Why Does It Develop?
Several factors can increase pressure or irritation around the nerve.
Tight or narrow shoes and high heels may aggravate symptoms by compressing the forefoot. Foot structure, repetitive activities, and certain biomechanical factors may also contribute.
Because other conditions can cause similar pain, an examination is useful before assuming a neuroma is responsible.
Diagnosing Forefoot Pain
Your provider can examine the painful area, evaluate your foot structure, and discuss the activities and footwear that affect your symptoms.
Imaging or other testing may be recommended in some cases to evaluate alternative causes of pain.
Treatment for Morton’s Neuroma
Treatment often begins with conservative approaches.
Depending on your condition, recommendations may include footwear changes, activity modification, padding, orthotics, medications, injections, or other therapies.
If symptoms remain significant despite conservative care, surgical treatment may be discussed for appropriate patients.
The goal is to reduce irritation around the affected nerve and help you return to more comfortable activity.
When Should You Seek Care?
Consider an evaluation when burning, numbness, tingling, or forefoot pain repeatedly occurs or begins limiting your activities.
